Inrecentyearsconsiderableprogresshasbeenachievedindomesticmedicalinstrument
engineering.Manyplantsandscientific-researchorganizationsofmachine-makingandthe
defenseindustryhavechangedtheirprofiletowardproductionofmedicalequipment.
However,medicalequipmentoftenmeetsareluctantmarketbecauseoffundingcutsin
healthservices.Medicalorganizationsoftencannotsatisfyeventheirbasicrequirementsfor
diagnosticandtherapeuticdevices.
Also,healthserviceorganizationstendtobuyforeignratherthandomesticmedical
equipmentbecausetheformerareeasilyavailableonthedomesticmarketandpricesforbothare
comparablebecauseofinflation.
ThetransitiontoamarketeconomyinRussiahashadsubstantialimpactontherelations
betweendomesticmanufactur-ersandconsumersofmedicaldevices.Thespectrumandqualityof
availableitemshasbeensignificantlyextendedinrecent
years.Itshouldbealsonotedthatavailablemodelsofmedicaldevicesarecontinuouslyupdated,
whichmakesthemsufficientlycompetitive.

summarizedinTable1.ThedatawereprovidedbytheVNIIMP-VITAJoint-StockCompany,
whichcompilesadatabankofsuchinformation.

produceddevices(durationofproduction,2-5years)accountfor28%.Medicaldevicesof
