Abstract
Inthelastfewyears,manysmartobjectsfoundinthephysicalworldareinterconnectedandcommunicatethroughtheexisting
internetinfrastructurewhichcreatesaglobalnetworkinfrastructurecalledtheInternetofThings(IoT).Researchhasshowna
substantialdevelopmentofsolutionsforawiderangeofdevicesandIoTplatformsoverthepast6-7years.However,each
solutionprovidesitsownIoTinfrastructure,devices,APIs,anddataformatsleadingtointeroperabilityissues.Suchinteroper-
abilityissuesaretheconsequenceofmanycriticalissuessuchasvendorlock-in,impossibilitytodevelopIoTapplication
exposingcross-platform,and/orcross-domain,difficultyinpluggingnon-interoperableIoTdevicesintodifferentIoTplatforms,
andultimatelypreventstheemergenceofIoTtechnologyatalarge-scale.Toenableseamlessresourcesharingbetweendifferent
IoTvendors,effortsbyseveralacademia,industry,andstandardizationbodieshaveemergedtohelpIoTinteroperability,i.e.,the
abilityformultipleIoTplatformsfromdifferentvendorstoworktogether.Thispaperperformsacomprehensivesurveyonthe
state-of-the-artsolutionsforfacilitatinginteroperabilitybetweendifferentIoTplatforms.Also,thekeychallengesinthistopicis
presented.
