Thestudyfindsthatrigoroushighschoolcoursework—particularlyinmathematicsand

science—isstronglyassociatedwithhigherACT®Compositescores.Studentswhocompleted

advancedcoursesandstudiedsubjectsbeyondfoundationallevels(e.g.,mathbeyondAlgebra

II,scienceincludingbiology,chemistry,andphysics)consistentlyoutperformedpeerswithless

rigorouspreparation.Whilemachinelearningmodelsofferedslightimprovementsinpredictive

accuracyovertraditionalregressionmethods,thestudyfoundthathierarchicallinearmodels

remainedhighlyeffectiveandmoreinterpretableforeducationalresearch.

SoWhat?

Thisstudymattersbecauseitprovidescompellingevidencethatrigoroushighschool

coursework—especiallyinmathandscience—notonlyboostsACTscoresbutalsodeepensour

understandingofeducationalequity.Whileadvancedcourseworkbenefitsallstudents,the

gainsaredisproportionatelyhigherforWhite,Asian,andhigher-incomestudents,revealing

persistentgapstiedtorace,gender,andsocioeconomicstatus.Thesefindingsunderscorethe

needfortargetedinterventionsandsupportsystemstoensurethatallstudentscanfullybenefit

fromrigorousacademicpreparation.
