ThelanguageofGaelichasbeenspokeninScotlandsinceatleastthe10thcenturyandwasatonetimethecountrysmainlanguage，widespreadintownsandcitiesacrossthenation．SincetheunionofScotlandandEnglandintheearly18thcentury，though，ithasbeenindecline．ThesedaysyouaremostlikelytofindnativeGaelicspeakersintheHighlandsofScotland，withconcernshavingbeenraisedaboutthefutureofthelanguage．

Now，anewinitiativefromCommunitycaféandGaelicculturalcentreseekstoturnthetidewiththereleaseofthefirstGaeliceditionoftheboardgameScrabble．

TitledScrabbleGàidhlig，itcontainsonlythe18lettersfoundintheGaelicalphabetandincludesthegraveaccentonvowelsàèìòandù．ThefrequencywithwhicheachletterappearshasbeenreconsideredtoreflectitsusageinGaelic，andscoringhasbeenreformulated(重新设定)toreflecttherespectiveeaseanddifficultyofusingdifferentlettersinthelanguage．

“WeworkedcloselyonthedevelopmentofthenewgamewiththeteamatAnTaighCèilidh，whohavedoneafantasticjoboflocalisingthematerialandensuringthatthegameplaysreallywell，”saidCEOJimHarrison．“Ihopeeveryoneenjoysplayingitasmuchasweenjoyedmakingit．”

“ItwillhelppeopleimprovetheiroralskillsandtherangeoftheirvocabularyinGaelic，”saidMcLeod，professorofGaelicattheUniversityofEdinburgh．“Inparticular，manyGaelicspeakersarenotveryconfidentwiththeirwrittenGaelicandGaelicScrabblecouldgivethemavaluableboost．ItwillbeveryhelpfulforGaeliclearnerstoo．Gaelicspellingisverylogicalonceyouarefamiliarwiththesystem，butitdoestaketimetomasterit．”
