;1948年3月22日生于英国南肯辛顿的音乐世家，祖父是优秀的男高音，父亲是英国伦敦音乐专校的校长、知名风琴演奏家，母亲是小提琴家，姨妈是剧院演员，弟弟是著名大提琴手……韦伯从小受到音乐熏陶，7岁开始作曲，姨妈带领他进入剧院，令他从小就领略了舞台的魅力，11岁时韦伯用积木和纸板盖了一个玩具剧院，而他为这个玩具剧院谱写的作品，后来还曾用在音乐剧《爱的观点》中。;韦伯16岁获得牛津大学奖学金，19岁进入皇家音乐学院学习管弦乐编曲。20世纪80年代，韦伯陆续写出了《猫》《星光列车》《歌剧魅影》《日落大道》《微风轻哨》等作品，《猫》的首演即获得了成功，后来还成为英国、美国的常青音乐剧之首。1994年韦伯名列《戏剧周刊》杂志编写的美国戏剧界最有影响力的100人之榜首。他为父亲写的《安魂曲》和他的《变奏曲》合起来制成的专辑成为销量最大的专辑，以及后来的《首演集》专辑销量超过六百万套。1996年韦伯还为巴塞罗那奥运会创作会歌《生命之友》，由莎拉·布莱曼和卡雷拉斯演唱。;;ItbasedonOldPossumsBookofPracticalCatsbyT.S.Eliot.

Ithasbeenperformedaroundtheworldmanytimesandhasbeentranslatedintomorethan20languages.In1998,Catswasturnedintoamade-for-televisionfilm.
