InteractionhypothesisTheInteractionhypothesisisatheoryofsecond-languageacquisitionwhichstatesthatthedevelopmentoflanguageproficiencyispromotedbyface-to-faceinteractionandcommunication.Theideaexistedinthe1980s,butisusuallycreditedtoMichaelLongforhis1996paperTheroleofthelinguisticenvironmentinsecondlanguageacquisition.

InteractionhypothesisTherearetwoformsoftheInteractionHypothesis:thestrongformandtheweakform.Thestrongformisthepositionthattheinteractionitselfcontributestolanguagedevelopment.Theweakformisthepositionthatinteractionissimplythewaythatlearnersfindlearningopportunities,whetherornottheymakeproductiveuseofthem.

InteractionhypothesisNegotiationformeaning协商意义:SimilarlytoKrashensinputhypothesis,theinteractionhypothesisclaimsthatcomprehensibleinputisimportantforlanguagelearning.Inaddition,itclaimsthattheeffectivenessofcomprehensibleinputisgreatlyincreasedwhenlearnershavetonegotiateformeaning.

InteractionhypothesisInteractionsoftenresultinlearnersreceivingnegativeevidence.Thatis,iflearnerssaysomethingthattheirinterlocutors(对话者)donotunderstand,afternegotiationtheinterlocutorsmaymodelthecorrectlanguageform.Indoingthis,learnerscanreceivefeedbackontheirproductionandongrammarthattheyhavenotyetmastered.

InteractionhypothesisTheprocessofinteractionmayalsoresultinlearnersreceivingmoreinputfromtheirinterlocutorsthantheywouldotherwise.Furthermore,iflearnersstoptoclarifythingsthattheydonotunderstand,theymayhavemoretimetoprocesstheinputtheyreceive.Thiscanleadtobetterunderstandingandpossiblytheacquisitionofnewlanguageforms.
