Collins was thought as the father of Detective Fiction in England and the breathtaking tension of his narrative created a new literary genre of suspense fiction, which profoundly shaped the course of English popular writing. He used his writing to uncover the gentle and harmonious veil of the propertied class.1 The book The Woman in White is a good example.The Woman in White was published in 1860 and soon become one of the most popular novels of the 19th century as the deceit, love and various unmasking ensue that explain the strange confinement within an asylum of Anne Catherick—the woman dresses in white.
