Introduction As is known, the English teaching objective in high school in China is to develop students’ communicative competence, which includes both the knowledge about the language and the knowledge about how to use the language appropriately in communicative situations. And the translation of communicative competence in language teaching practice is to develop learners’ language skills, namely, listening, speaking, reading and writing. However, things do not always follow peoples’ wishes. No matter how hard we work, we have not always attained this goal in English teaching. To some degree, this is because we have neglected aesthetics input in English in high school. According to the General English Course Standards in High School of China, one of whose contents is culture, which includes knowledge, belief, art, morals, law, custom, and any other capabilities and habits acquired by man as a member of society.?(Taylor, 1924), the term?culture can be understood in both broad and narrow senses; it may refer to the?intellectuals refinement and?artistic endeavor, or the appreciation of music, literature, art and so on. ? For senior students, someone thinks it is necessary to learn to appreciate the beauty of the English language. They can form their own aesthetic standards. Therefore our English teachers should teach not only language but also culture and at the same time and pay more attention to aesthetics input in English teaching, so that we can help increase students intercultural awareness and improve the qualities of the students. 2. Some theories about aesthetics 2.1The definition of aesthetics? Aesthetics?(esthetics) is a branch of philosophy dealing with the definition of beauty. Aesthetics origins from Greek article.
