Economic globalization and international exchanges are increasing constantly. Foreign language, especially English, has become and will continue to be an important tool of international communication. Besides, China has joined the WTO and succeeded in bidding to host the Olympic Games, which mean English will be used more and more widely in China. Therefore, English teaching will undertake arduous tasks.To meet the needs of the new situation, English teachers should make studies of teaching methods and suggest strategies of improvement. Carrying on teaching reform should switch from teacher-centered teaching model, which means teachers are talking most of the time while students listening, to students-centered teaching model. This paper holds that the good use of questioning is one of the successful ways to this reform. So questioning has become a vital component of effective teaching.Questioning, generally speaking, refers to presenting any sentence of inquiry form/ function. Classroom questioning is a common and traditional teaching method.1? Almost all teachers ask questions in class every day, but most of them are raised casually. They are not proficient in the art of asking questions.?“The skill area of asking questions refers to the instructor’s ability to use different types of questions for a variety of instructional purposes.”2 However, it is not easy to ask effective questions. Teachers must pay attention to the skill of questioning in the teaching.
