First, study should be treated with the scientific and honest attitude. Second, study tool cannot replace study progress; high technology cannot replace memory. Last, study cannot be replaced by examination; textbooks cannot be replaced by the collection of examination questions. In the author’s opinion, phrase-approach to English learning is very effective and practicable.Vocabulary is the foundation stone, building the language edifice, and the basic unit, composing a context. Vocabulary has an extremely important position in English learning. The famous English linguist D.A.Wilkins, once said,?“Without the grammar, people cannot express any thing, but without the vocabulary, people are unable to express anything.”1It is well known that vocabulary plays a very important role in language study because it is the essence of a language. Without vocabulary, there would be no sentence, no text and no language. Therefore, in order to master a language well, it is necessary for language learners to learn vocabulary well. But in fact, it seems to be very difficult for most of them to do the job well. They are always troubled in the memory and comprehension of vocabulary. In this paper, the author is going to put the focus on the phrase-approach in English learning and aims to demonstrate the effectiveness of phrase-approach theoretically and experimentally in the hope that phrase-approach can offer them something useful.?II. The Current Situation of Vocabulary LearningGenerally speaking, vocabulary has become one of the vital standards in English study. For example, with the reference of syllabus for TEM four and eight, English majors are required to master 5000~6000 words for TEM four and 9000~12000 words for TEM eight. Though vocabulary plays a core role in
