IntroductionIn our daily lives, we can see and hear humors here and there, but when we meet them, maybe we just laugh and then pass by. If we study its innate character carefully, we can get that, daily humors?‘manifestation is related to some linguistic factors such as principles of conversation. Though there were many professors who had studied humors, they just study its theory aspect. With the WTO and more some other open policies of china, we exchanged with foreigners more and more, and people started to study English humor more and more. Because if we want to know foreign countries and foreigners better, we must know their language style, if we want to know their language style better, we must study humor, for an Englishman or America looks a sense of humor as a quality of a person’s cultural background.?2. Definition of HumorThe word?‘humor’ comes from Latin; it means fluid and indicates animal and plant’s fluid. But it indicates people’s fluid more. The people differentiate temperament and character according to different fluid, hence, humor indicates people’s temper and character. Till the 18th century, following the enhancement of people’s education, humor began to have its latter-day meaning.According to Longman Dictionary of Contemporary English?(second edition), humor is 1) the ability to understand and enjoy what is funny and makes people laugh; 2) the quality of causing amusement. For the purpose of this study, the second definition is adopted, and humor to be discussed in Pride and Prejudice will be used in a broad sense to embrace whatever language causes amusement.
