Structures and Sealing Properties of TiO2-CaO-SrO-B2O3-SiO2 Glasses for Intermediate 5 10 15 20 25 30 35 40 45 Temperature Solid Oxide Fuel Cells: Effect of TiO2 content Zhang Teng1, Chen Jialin1, Zou Qi1, Zeng Fanrong2, Wang Shaorong2, Tang Dian1, Yang Hiswen3* (1. Department of Materials Science and Engineering School, National United University, Miao-Li 36003) Abstract: In this paper, TiO2 is added as the nucleation agent to CaO-SrO-B2O3-SiO2 sealing system to tailor the properties of glass-ceramic seals by changing the crystallization process. The coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) of quenched glasses and glass-ceramics (heat-treated at 750oC for 100 hours) does not change significantly with the addition of TiO2. The formation of Sr(TiO3), with the addition of TiO2, leads to the improved chemical compatibility of sealing glasses as well as the increase in electrical conductivity (e.g., from 7.9×10-8 S/cm to 6.9×10-5 S/cm at 800oC). In addition, the good bondage are observed at the interface between Cr-containing interconnect (430SS) and glass containing 4-8 mole% TiO2. Keywords: Solid Oxide Fuel Cells; Sealing Glass; Phase Structure; Sealing properties; Chemical Compatibility 0 Introduction With the reduction of operational temperatures to under 800oC, the design of Intermediate Temperature Solid Oxide Fuel Cells (IT-SOFCs) allows the use of ferritic stainless steels as interconnect components[1, 2] and thus becomes more applicable compared with high temperature SOFCs. However, the stability of IT-SOFCs under long-term operation or thermal cycles still remains challenging, due to mechanical stresses generated by the differences in thermal expansion of the involved materials as well as non-equilibrium thermal conditions upon heating and cool
