ABSTRACT Focus on form has grasped much attention from teachers and researchers, and it is widely used by teachers in the classrooms all over the world. Much research made abroad has been published for our reference but less research done by the teachers engaging in foreign language teaching in China appeared. The purpose of the paper is to help teachers in middle schools in China apply this model to improve their teaching. By observing the strategies used by a native English language teacher in the classroom, I found there are more active participation from students and interaction between the teachers and students when focus on form is adopted. The students show their strong interest in the English class. The application of focus on form can greatly promote students’ linguistic knowledge, spoken English ability and also their social skills. My research focuses on multiple strategies and activities designed by the native English language teacher on the basis of Chinese curriculum and learning environment. Methodologies including classroom observation, case study, and questionnaires are used in this paper. The research based on the models of native teacher’s instruction attempts to apply focus on form in middle school classrooms to improve our English language teaching.
