Department of pharmacy, Beijing Tiantan Hospital, Capital Medical University, Beijing 100050, China [Abstract] Medication errors account for huge negative impact on medical quality, which can not only worsen fragile condition of patients and consume precious medical resources, but also cause medical treatment dissensions and further intensify the doctor-patient conflicts. In addition to searching CNKI, Science Citation Index (SCI), we also surfed the Internet to collect the articles related to the medication errors. By summarizing the definition and classification of medication errors and reviewing the important role of pharmacists in reduction of medical errors, we hope the clinical practitioners, whole society and government can realize irreplaceable value of pharmacist. Meanwhile, the shortage of pharmacists, especially lack of high-level pharmacists, limits the development of hospital pharmacy.
