CARICOM STATEMENT ON A POST-2015 DEVELOPMENT AGENDA The Member States of the Caribbean Community Taking note of on-going global processes, particularly those set out in the Outcome Document of the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development (Rio +20), to elaborate a Post-2015 Development Agenda, and of consultations at the global, regional and national levels, including within CARICOM Member States, to facilitate the special development needs of the sub-region, Reaffirming our commitment to the implementation of the outcomes of major United Nations Conferences and Summits in the economic, social, environmental and related fields, and to the achievement of the internationally agreed development goals, including the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), Recalling the Barbados Programme of Action (BPOA) and the Mauritius Strategy for Implementation (MSI), in which the international community recognised the unique and particular challenges and needs of Small Island Developing States (SIDS), and reaffirming the need to fully support efforts to effectively address these challenges and needs in the Post 2015 Development Agenda, Recognising efforts underway by all states to attain the internationally agreed development goals, including the MDGs, and the need to urgently scale-up and accelerate such efforts between now and 2015, Cognisant of the opportunities and challenges for CARICOM Member States in the context of the elaboration and implementation Post-2015 Development Agenda and of efforts to deepen and accelerate regional integration in pursuit of sustainable development. We stress, therefore, that the Post-2015 Development Agenda should emanate from an open, transparent and inclusive process, which should be directed towards: Intergovernmental Leadership that establishes an agenda that is intergovernmentally determined and agreed; The Eradication of Poverty as a central objective and overarching goal of the global development agenda; A People-Centred Appro
