Most of patients are in advanced stage at the tmi e of first d iagnosis. Conventional chemotherapy has shown poor effect for advanced HCC. W ith recent yearsprofound research of molecular biology, targeted treatment has appeared as a breakthrough in the treatment of advanced HCC. Sorafen ib is an oralmultip le k inase inh ib itor. It inh ib its tumor an giogenesis through blocking the RAF signaling pathw ay and the activity of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF). The phase III clin ical trials show ed that sorafenib, the first m edicine approved to be used in patients w ith unresectableHCC, is able to increase survival of patients. Moreover, phase I~ II trials of targeted med icine such as sun itinib and brivanib has also shown their effectiveness in the treatment of advanced HCC. In the mean tmi e, phase III clin ical study is proceed ing w ith the hope to provide the patientsw ith more and better choices.
