Methods A total of 95 cases of hard nucleus cataractwere ran鄄 domly assignedto the control group givenphacoemulsification cataract surgery andthe experimental group given manu鄄 al small incision cataract surgery. The surgical effect and safety were observed. Results At the end of the third month the surgery,93.75% of the patients in the experimental group had corrected visual acuity of 0.5~1.0, significantly high鄄 erthan 81.01% of the control group (P0.05). At the end of first day and first week after surgery, the experimental group had greater corneal astigmatism than the control group (P0.01). The experimental group had lower incidence rate ofposterior capsular rupture and corneal edema during surgerythan the control group (P0.01)
