If the tone were ironic, then the poet expresses the unfair social phenomenon with the words of the little black boy. Although the little black boy thinks his soul is white as angle, his social state is still humble. He was deprived of light and the equal right just because of his skin color. In the last stanza, although all the things depicted seems good, it actually shows the innocence and goodness of the little black boy and also the social injustice. In my opinion, I agree that there is no trace of irony in this poem. Instead, I think it is a strong contrast between black and white. My mother bore me in the southern wild,And I am black, but oh my soul is white!White as an angel is the English child,But I am black, as if bereaved of light. 妈妈生我在南方的荒野， 我虽是黑人，但灵魂雪白！ 英国孩子白得像天使， 但我黑，好像失去了光彩 3. He believed everything in life was a symbol with a mystical or spiritual meaning, and his poem spoke out against social injustice. * *
