AvailableonliReatScienceDirect J．Mater．Sci．Techno1．，2014，30(1)，65～76 EffectofHydrodynamicConditionsonCorrosionInhibitionofCu—Ni(90／10) 一 AlloyinSeawaterandSulphideContainingSeawaterUsing1,2，3·Benzotriazole B． AppaRap． ChaitanyaKumar DepartmentofChemistry,NationalInstituteofTechnologyWarangal，Warangal，506004AndhraPradesh，India M【anuscriptreceivedJanuary23，2013，inrevisedformMay11，2013，Availableonline3September2013] ElectrochemicalstudiesoftheeffectofhydrodynamicconditionsoncorrosioninhibitionofCu—Ni(90／10)alloyin syntheticseawaterandsulphidecontainingsyntheticseawaterby 1，2，3·benzotriazole (BTAH)arepresented． Impedance，potentiodynamicpolarizationandcyclicvoltammetric C《V)studiesareemployed inthepresent investigation．Thestudiesarecarried outby using Cu～Ni(90／10)alloy rotatingdiscelectrode atdifferent rotation speedsandatdifferentimmersionperiods．Reynoldsnumbersateachrotation speed inferthatthe flow ofseawateris laminar．W ith increasingrotation speed ofthe electrode immersed in seawaterwithout sulphide and BTAH，both the charge transferresistance R《ct)and f¨m resistance (RfiIm)are increased． However,inthepresenceofsulphide ionsandwithoutBTAH，both theRctandRfiIm arefoundto decrease withincreasingrotation speedatidenticaIimmersionperiods．Interestingly,whenBTAH isaddedtoseawater orseawatercontaining sulphide，boththeRotandRfilm are increasedtosuch agreatextentthataninhibition efficiencyof99．99％ isobtained．1nthepresenceofBTAH，thephaseangleBodeplotsaremorebroadened and the ma×imum values of phase angle are increased to a value close to 90。asthe rotation speed is jncreased．The BTAH f¨m is highly protective even underhydrodynamic condition also．Potentiodynamic polarizationstudies inferthatBTAH functionsasamixed inhibitorunderhydrodynamic conditions
