Pinacol coupling reaction is a direct method for vicinal diols generation. Stereoselectivities in asymmetric pinacol coupling can be realized via chiral environments created by manual methods. This review summarized the recent progress in asymmetric pinacol coupling reaction, and corresponding prospects in this field have also been put forward.
