Abstract
Elaborateexperimentswereperformedina30m 1ong．0．5m deeDand0．2m widelaboratoryflumetostudythe
processofinfiltrationoffinesedimentintotheporesofcoarsesedimentformingthechannelbedmateria1．Different
concentrationsofsuspendedlpadoffinesedimentofsize0．064mm werepassedoverthechannelbedmadeuDOf
three differenttypesofcoarse sediments；two uniform and onenonun iform ．The proportion offinesediment
infiltratedintotheporesofbedmaterialforeachequilibrium concentrationofsuspendedloadoffinesedimentinthe
flow wassutdiedduringseveralexperimentalruns．Theproportionoffinesedimentwimintheporesofbedmateria1
increasedwithanincreaseintheequilibrimu concentrationofsuspendedloadoffinesedimentintheflow．This
processcontinuedtilltheporeswithinthecoarsesedimentbedwerefilleduptothecapacitywiththefinesediment
