The Ancient Literature Research on Baihui Point(GV20) Speciality: Medical History and Literature of TCM Author:Yan Chunchun Tutor:prof.Liu Gengsheng Abstract Baihui point(GV20) is one of the mostly used points in clinical practice of acupuncture and moxibustion. Many records of Baihui point(GV20) can be found in ancient literature of the past dynasties, but they all lack systematical analysis of it. By the traditional method of documentation science and with the aid of computer retrieval, the author collected the information related to Baihui point(GV20) from ancient literature of the past dynasty, classified them into different category and made analysis and research on them. After the retrieval, the author found 1525 pieces of useful information form 168 ancient literature books, and made them into 5 parts, including the name, location, channel tropism, indication and method of acupuncture and moxibustion of Baihui point(GV20). According to the research, Baihui point(GV20) totally has 10 names, such as Baihui, Dianshang, SanyangWuhui, Niwan, etc. The location mode of Baihui point(GV20) includes surface landmark, bone proportional measurement, combination of surface landmark and bone proportional measurement, and corroboration by other points. The author also analyzed the order in which the 7 kinds of channel tropism of Baihui point(GV20) appeared from the angle of historical evolution. Moreover, the author sorted the indications that only related to Baihui point(GV20) according to the clinical branches listed on the national appointed textbooks for higher academy of traditional Chinese medicine. These branches include internal medicine, surgery, gynaecology, paediatrics, dermatology, ophthalmology, otorhinolaryngology and orthopedics and traumatology. By such classification, all the information is put into the computer to establish a data base.
