Past events influence present-day attitudes so it’s important to know about them. Reasons for learning about the lives of ordinary people: Learning about ordinary lives brings history alive. It gives us a detailed picture rather than an overall picture. It’s easier to understand the past through ordinary people’s lives. Ordinary people’s lives tell us about our family’s past. It’s important to understand how ordinary people were effected by great events. We learn about long-term social trends through the study of ordinary people’s lives. 3 Work in pairs and discuss the statement below.
