------------动名词(I)
I must apologize for not returning your book on time.
I was quite disappointed at not finding him there.
Trying without success is better than not trying at all.
Talking like that is not polite.
Learning from others is very important.
It’s very nice climbing mountains at this time of year.
在it is + 名词或形容词+动名词句型中,如果形容词和名词是good, no good, no use, use, useless, waste of time等,通常用动名词作真正主语,不用动词不定式。如:
It’s a waste of time talking to her any more.
It’s no use / no good / useless persuading her into leaving her house.
She usually spends her spare time in the reading room. (= the room for reading)
I slept in the sleeping bag during the hike. (= the bag for sleeping)
The nurse’s job is looking after the patients.
My grandma’s hobby is collecting butterflies.
以下动词或动词短语要用动名词作宾语:admit, appreciate, consider, delay, dislike, enjoy, finish, imagine, mind, miss, practise, suggest, stop, can’t help, give up, keep (on), look forward to等。如:
I enjoy reading in the forest.
Do you mind opening the door?
I insisted on going there alone.
We’re considering buying a new car.

Robert:She was in the nightclub.
Captain:We have people up there, Mr. Ramsey. I’m confident they’re dealing with it.
Robert:You’re confident? You can’t reach them, can you? I mean, what if they’re dead?
Captain:Then your daughter’s dead too, and leaving this room won’t help. Half the people here have family somewhere on board. You know disaster scenarios. These folks start climbing all over each other trying to search the ship ... they’re going to get themselves killed.
Robert:How do I get up there, Cap
