Abstract While Sustainable Agriculture and Rural Development(SARD)is the most essential to the Sustainable Development ofthe entire human race，it is especially of fatal significance to a big agricultural country which is in the interim from traditional agricultural period to modern agricultural period like China．Therefore， this article firstly looks into this problem from the aspects of the connotations， objects，theories and practices related to SARD both in China and abroad． The study and practice of SARD will be carried out in region finally．Only throulgh comprehensive study to regions in different scales，its inner mechanism， pivotal tache，predominance，inferior position and tilture situation can be unveiled． In this research paper a typical lnountain area Jingxing County is taken as the object area of study，so that abundant substantive information call be provided for the revea／ment of the law of SARD jn the Taihang mountain countries Indicaturs of agriculture and rural economy are established on the basis of qualitative analysis of regional background and present state of agriculture and rural development Thus a judgment of present SARD level and forecast of its future situation call be made through quantitative analysis of these indicators，providing much to refer to when countermeasures and future SARD patterns are to be constituted． The innovative values of the study can be expatiated in at least two facets： First，SARD indicators system is constructed firstly,which responds to the characters of researching area．With consideration of the characteristics of this area such as weak enviropment and abundant mineral resource，special datas are added to the indicators，including，average high quality limestone possession，sloping field area propoaion and so on，which makes the indicators more scientific and comparable．Secondly，the corresponding measures are set up respond to the full-scale evaluation about the researching area．In the study the conception of function area i
