Design and Technology at Warren The DT Department There are eight full time teachers and two technicians. We have four workshops with another about to be built. There are three graphics rooms, a sixth form study room as well as a separate CAD/CAM room. There are eighty PCs and every room has an LCD projector. Courses Offered at GCSE Resistant Materials Product Design (Graphics) Industrial Technology Systems and Control Recent Developments The Engineering Innovation Program The London Borough of Barking and Dagenham Regeneration For many years Barking and Dagenham has undertaken a wide variety of successful regeneration projects and activities and is home to some of the largest regeneration schemes in Europe. It is a major focus for development in East London and the wider Thames Gateway, as well as being of a huge strategic importance for London. CEME The Centre for Engineering and Manufacturing Excellence is a world class centre of expertise encouraging involvement and investment of adjacent business and academic interests. It is a joint venture - Ford Motor Company, Havering College, Barking College, Heart of Thames Gateway SRB6 The project seeks to create lasting prosperity through investment in sustainable local jobs. It will attract vibrant commercial and industrial activities, strengthen modern manufacturing business, ensure that skills development is linked to investment opportunities and provide education and training. Funding through SRB6 has been used in part for an Engineering Innovation Program At school level this has meant the introduction of a double GCSE for 22 pupils in three schools. In addition to OCR Industrial Technology (Engineering) they also take OCR Systems and Control. This has been agreed with the exam board. Setting up the course Nigel Sagar our D T Inspector has worked with Havering schools as well as Barking and Dagenham to ensure the successful introduction of the course by the use of summer schools, regular meetings and INSET
