How the Information Industry Should Respond To Chinas Entry into WTO（I） （Fan Huiwen, China Academy of Development of Electronic Information Industry） In the process of the negotiations about Chinas entry into the WTO, the permission of the information products and the information service to enter the market has always been one of the focal points. The government of our country has promised to cancel the import tariff of electronic information products step by step and open our telecommunications services to the world gradually after our entry into the WTO. After our countrys entry into the WTO, what developing opportunities and international competition challenges will the information industry be faced with and what countermeasures shall we take? That is where our focus of attention lies. I. The International Status of The Information Industry of Our Country In recent years, the information industry of our country has always kept the tendency of high speed development, making a lot of breakthroughs in growing speed, structural upgrading, market development, export business and enterprise system transformation, etc. Information industry has become the first backbone industry of the national economy of our country. In the year 2000，the increased value of the national information industry already exceeded RMB 1000 billion, taking the No. 4 position of the world, thus, our country has become one of the largest information products producing and processing bases of the world. In 2000, the contribution rate of the information products manufacturing industry of the country already reached 19％, the proportion of information products export in the total export of the whole country reached 22%, so this industry has already become the leading force promoting the increase of export of our country.
