BRIG 20 16 September 2009 Agenda item 13 Updating the work of the UK Biodiversity Reporting and Information Group (BRIG) under devolved arrangements For other BRIG papers and minutes of BRIG meetings visit http:// .uk/5700 For more information about the UK Biodiversity Action Plan (UK BAP) visit .uk/5155 Updating the work of the UK Biodiversity Reporting and Information Group (BRIG) under devolved arrangements Background At the 4 February 2009 BRIG meeting Greg Mudge, Paul Rose and Matt Shardlow were charged with reviewing the Terms of Reference and work plan for BRIG to reflect the new set of UK-level responsibilities for delivering biodiversity conservation outlined in the publication “Conserving biodiversity – a UK approach”. BRIG’s Terms of Reference The 2007 version of BRIG’s ToRs are appended at Annex 1, with our few proposed changes tracked. BRIG’s work plan We feel that the work plan needs substantial change from the previous version (2008-2010). A proposed new work plan is presented at Annex 2. This includes at the front a set of proposed objectives for BRIG’s work followed by a set of proposed actions. Earlier actions now complete have been deleted. The suite of actions is designed to allow BRIG to address the range of UK responsibilities identified in Section 6 of Conserving biodiversity – a UK approach. Recommendations BRIG is asked to: comment on the Terms of Reference comment on the proposed new work plan agree to ask UKSC to endorse the updated Terms of Reference and work plan for BRIG.
