Passivisation（被动语态多） There is a tendency in SEC writing to use the passive construction more often than in general writing. Passive voice occurs more frequently in writing of scientific papers. The passive way of saying thing is preferred. Reasons What we concern about is the fact rather than the people. e.g. As our views, pure water can be obtained from the sea water. The subject is more attractive. e.g. Distillation is based on the fact that the vapor of a boiling mixture will be richer in the components that have lower boiling point. The passive sentence is concise. e.g. Chemistry is used in many different fields. People use chemistry in many different fields. So the passive sentences can be used to give the necessary information in the best possible way impersonally, concisely, objectively. b. Adjective clauses（后置定语多） An important structure that recurs in SEC is the use of relatives, for the reason that scientific writing tend to define or describe things, which requires the frequent using of adjectives, adjective clauses( clause or –ing).
