Factors Influencing English Listening Comprehension and Possible Solutions With the development of society, science and technology, recognized as a world language, English is becoming more important in China and the number of people communication in English for various purposes is rapidly increasing worldwide. As time passes on, learning a foreign language is not only to read and appreciate literary works. The need of oral communication becomes very urgent, and listening greatly affects communication ability. With this realization, most students are enthusi- astic about improving listening ability. Learners are working hard to master the language. But there exist a real difficulty: however hard they study in the class, once the students leave classroom they are back into a totally Chinese world. They may have the ability to read magazines or journals in English, but they find it very difficult to listen to or communicate with a native English speaker. This paper discusses the issue of improving listening ability. It analyses the natures of listening and the reasons for students poor listening ability. It also lists the factors that influencing English listening comprehension and the strategies to be taken that might improve students listening. Some methods are of significance and may prove beneficial to English language teaching in China.
