Methods: A database of the characters of traditional Chinese drugs was established and an artificial immune system (AIS) was set up, which can be used to predict the function classification of traditional Chinese drugs. Results: The characters of traditional Chinese drugs was coded and imported into the optimized AIS.The output shows that Ma Qian-zi should be categorized into the group of drugs, which can promote blood circulation and remove blood stasis. Conclusion: The AIS can be a help for study on the function classification of traditional Chinese drugs.
