Methods Retrospective analysis of our department in January 2002 ~ December 2004 admitted 136 cases over 70 years old cancer patient clinical data D2 radical resection. Results 136 patients, the postoperative complication rate was 38.2%, perioperative mortality rate 1.5%. Pleural effusion, lung infection and anastomotic leakage is a major complication. After upper abdominal surgery the incidence of pleural effusion compared with lower abdominal surgery significantly increased (χ 2 = 13.6, P = 0.0002). Conclusion elderly cancer patients during D2 radical resection is safe and adequate preoperative preparation and careful management of complications is the key to reducing mortality.
