Methods A randomized, double-blind method on 40 patients with elective abdominal surgery patients were divided into two groups, respectively, intravenous magnesium sulfate and saline. Methods Forty patients with upper abdominal operation were randomly divided in two groups by double  blind method. Mg group was infused with magnesium sulfate and control group was infused with saline. The results of VSA score, dose of tramadol in the first 24 hours after operation, level of consciousness and hemodynamic changes were analyzed. Results There was a significant decrease using dose of tramadol in the first 24 hours after operation in Mg group compared with control group. The analgesic effect and the incidence of adverse reactions between two groups have no significant diference.
