METHODS: Fortytwo patients who had been nonresponsive to conventional immunosuppressor or suffered from recrudescent infection were cure by MMF combined with prednisone. The clinical curative effect and the levels of active markers were examined before treatment and 3, 6, 12 month after treatment. RESULTS: ① After 3month treatment, complete remission was achieved in 33%, partial remission in 24%. After 6 months, the proportion was raised to 38% and 26%, respectively. After 12 months, it was raised to 50% and 31%, respectively.The total efficiency was 81%. ② Compared with the data before treatment, 24 h urinary protein, urine IL6, the serum Creactive protein, ESR, antidsDNA antibody and antinucleus antibody were significantly decreased after 3 months, and further with the ongoing treatment. The albumin and complement C3 were significantly increased after 3 months, and increasingly with the extending time of treatment. ③ Side effects of MMF were very few, and the safety and tolerance were good. CONCLUSION: MMF combined with prednisone can improve the active indexes of refractory lupus nephritis and is of better tolerance and safety, as well as very few side effects.
