Overthepastfewyears,antivascularendothelialgrowthfactor(VEGF)therapyhasbecomeastandardtreatmentforneovascular age-relatedmaculardegeneration(AMD).Duringthistime,treatmentstrategieshaveevolvedfromamonthlydosingscheduleto individualizedregimens.Thispaperwillreviewthecurrentlyavailableanti-VEGFagentsandevidence-basedtreatmentstrategies. 1.Introduction (Lucentis;Genentech/Roche,SouthSanFrancisco)incom- binationwithphotodynamictherapy(PDT)withvertepor?n (Visudyne; Novartis, Basel, Switzerland) decreased CNV leakageandinducedCNVregression[5]. Overthepastfewyears,anti-VEGFtherapyforneovas- cularAMDhasbecomeastandardtreatmentforneovascular AMD.Thispaperwillreviewanti-VEGFtreatmentoptions andcurrenttreatmentstrategies. Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is the result of complexinteractions between lipofuscinogenesis, druseno- genesis,andin?ammationwhichcanleadtochoroidalneo- vascularization(CNV).Unregulatedchoroidalangiogenesis begins when local in?ammation, and potentially ischemia, disrupt a delicate interplay between numerous stimulators andinhibitors,whichmayleadtoanimbalancebetweenthe proangiogenic vascular endothelial growth
