These methods comprisedcomparisonsofempiricaldensitiesordistributionfunctionsandempiricalsurvivalcurves.It is the objective of this paper to provide an inductive statistical method to avoid the problems with descriptivetechniquesandsurvivalanalysis.Thisstatisticalmodelmeetsfourimportantstandards:(1) theef?ciencyofasurgicaltechniquecanbeassessedwithinanarbitrarytimeintervalbyanewindex (VAT-index),(2)possibleautocorrelationsofthedataaretakenintoconsiderationand(3)theef?ciency isnotonlystatedbyapointestimator,butalso95%point-wisecon?dencelimitsarecomputedbasedon theMonteCarlomethod,and?nally,(4)theef?ciencyofaspeci?cmethodisillustratedbylineand rangeplotsforquickillustrationandcanalsobeusedforthecomparisonofdifferentothersurgical techniquessuchasrefractivetechniques,glaucomaandretinalsurgery.
