Background.Nonalcoholicfattyliverdisease(NAFLD)inchildrenhasbeenrecognizedasamajorhealthburden.Serumlipids as well as dietary cholesterol (DC) intake may positively relate to development of NAFLD. The purpose of this study was toinvestigateanthropometric,biochemical,anddietaryintakeparametersofobeseGreekchildrenwithandwithoutNAFLD. MaterialsandMethods.Eighty-?veobesechildrenaged8–15(45boys/40girls)participatedinthestudy.NAFLDwasdiagnosed byultrasonography(US)inallsubjects.Liverindexesweremeasuredinallchildren.A3-daydietarywasrecordedforallsubjects. Results.38outof85children(44.7%)werefoundtohavefattyliver.ObesechildrenwithincreasedlevelsofTC(95%CI:1.721– 3.191),lowdensitylipoprotein(LDL)(95%CI:1.829–3.058),andincreaseddietarycholesterolintakes(95%CI:1.511–2.719) were2.541,2.612,and2.041timesmorelikelytodevelopNAFLDcomparedwiththechildrenwithoutNAFLD.Conclusion .The presentstudyshowedthatTC,LDL,andDCwerethestrongestriskfactorsofdevelopmentofNAFLD.Reducingbodyweightand dietarycholesterolintakesaswellasdecreasingserumTCandLDLlevelsareurgentlynecessaryinordertoprev
