Themutualcouplinge?ectbetweenantennaelementsonanarray’sbandwidthisinvestigatedusingscatteringparametersinstead ofthemutualimpedance.First,anapproximateexpressionisderivedformatchedvoltagestandingwaveratio(VSWR)bandwidth ofatunedantenna,whichrevealsthatthebandwidthisinverselyproportionaltothemagnitude|Γ (ω0)|ofthefrequencyderivative 0 ofthere?ectioncoe?cient.Next,consideringlinearantennaarrayswithcorporatefeedasanexample,closed-formexpressionsof there?ectioncoe?cientarederivedattheinputportofthefeedingnetwork,whichshowsthattheactivere?ectioncoe?cientofan arrayisthelinearsuperpositionofelements’passivere?ectioncoe?cientS11andthemutualcouplingcoe?cientS12fromadjacent elements.TheVSWRbandwidthexpressionsforanarrayimplythatbandwidthenhancementoftheoverallarraycanbeachieved whentheelementpassivere?ectioncoe?cientS11andmutualcouplingS12arecancelled,aswellasthefrequencyderivativesS11 andS12alsocanceleachother.Slotarraysandatwo-elementVivaldiarrayareinvestigatedtoverifythevalidityofourtheoretical analysis.Numericalandexperimentalresultsarepresentedtosuccessfullydemonstratethebandwidthenhancementofantenna arraysutilizingmutualcouplinge?ect. 1.
