ThispaperpresentsrecentresearchintoP2Pdistributionofvideothatcanbehighlylocalized,preferablysharingcontentamong usersonthesameaccessnetworkandCentralO?ce(CO).ModelsofvideodemandandlocalizedP2Pservingareasarepresented. Detailedsimulationsofpassiveopticalnetworks(PON)arerun,andthesegeneratestatisticsofP2Pvideolocalization.Next- GenerationPON(NG-PON)isshowntofullyenableP2Pvideolocalization,butthelowerratesofGigabit-PON(GPON)restrict performance.Resultshereshowthatnearlyallofthetra?cvolumeofunicastvideocouldbedeliveredvialocalizedP2P.Strong growthinvideodeliveryvialocalizedP2PcouldloweroverallfutureaggregationandcorenetworkbandwidthofIPvideotra?c by58.2%,andtotalconsumerInternettra?cby43.5%.Thisassumesaggressiveadoptionoftechnologiesandbusinesspractices thatenablehighlylocalizedP2Pvideo. 1.Introduction paperfocusesonthemaximumlocalizationthatisgenerally possibletolocalizetra?cwithinaccessnetworksandcentral- o?ce(CO)servingareas.
