Behavioral di?erentiation and ovarian development of unmated gynes, queens, and workers of Ectatomma vizottoi were investigatedinlaboratoryconditions.Forty-onebehavioralactswereidenti?edandquanti?edforworkers,19forqueensand 24 for unmated gynes, for an overall species repertoire of 42 di?erent behavioral acts. Ovipositing reproductive eggs was an exclusivetaskofthequeen,whereasworkersshowed15caste-speci?cbehaviors.Themostimportant(frequent)behaviorsforthe queenswerebroodcare,immobility,andreproduction,andforworkerswereimmobility,grooming/interaction,broodcare,and foraging.Unmatedgynes(notwinged)primarilyshowedimmobility,broodcare,grooming/interaction,andforaging.Analysis ofovariandevelopmentshowedthatunmatedgyneshadlittle-developedovarioles,incontrasttoqueens.Queensandunmated gynesshowedaclearbehavioraldi?erentiat
