Objectives.Toassessthee?cacyandsafetyofberberineinthetreatmentoftype2diabetesmellitus(T2DM).Methods.Randomized trialsofberberinecomparedwithlifestylemodi?cation,placebo,and/ororalhypoglycaemicsinterventionontreatingT2DMwere included.Studypopulationcharacteristicsandoutcomeresultswereextractedindependentlybytworeviewers.Meta-analyses wereperformedfordataavailable.Results.Fourteenrandomizedtrials,involving1068participants,wereincludedinthisstudy. Methodological quality was generally low. Compared with lifestyle modi?cation with or without placebo, the cointervention ofberberineandlifestylemodi?cationshowedsigni?cantlyhypoglycaemicandantidyslipidemicresponse.Comparedwithoral hypoglycaemicsincludingmetformin,glipizide,orrosiglitazone,berberinedidnotdemonstrateasigni?cantlybetterglycaemic controlbutshowedamildantidyslipidemice?ect.Comparedwith oralhypoglycaemicdrugs,cointerventionswith berberine andthesameoralhypoglycaemicsshowedabetterglycaemiccontrol.Noseriousadversee?ectsfromberberinewerereported. Conclusions.Berberineappe
