TheprogressofPDanditsrelateddisorderscannotbepreventedwiththemedicationsavailable.Inthisstudy,werecruited8PD and4PDpluspatientsbetween5to15yearsafterdiagnosis.AllpatientsreceivedBM-MSCsbilaterallyintotheSVZandwere followedupfor12months.PDpatientsaftertherapyreportedameanimprovementof17.92%during“on”and31.21%during “o?”periodontheUPDRSscoringsystem.Noneofthepatientsincreasedtheirmedicationduringthefollow-upperiod.Sub- jectively,thepatientsreportedclarityinspeech,reductionintremors,rigidity,andfreezingattacks.Theresultscorrelatedwiththe durationofthedisease.Thosepatientstransplantedintheearlystagesofthedisease(lessthan5years)showedmoreimprovement andnofurtherdiseaseprogressionthanthelaterstages(11–15years).However,thePDpluspatientsdidnotshowanychangein theirclinicalstatusafterstemcelltransplantation.ThisstudydemonstratesthesafetyofadultallogenichumanBM-MSCstrans- plantedintotheSVZofthebrainanditse?cacyinearly-stagePDpatients. 1.Introduction ThecausesofidiopathicParkinson-disease(IPD)arebe- lievedtobeacombinationofgeneticandenvironmentalfac- tor
