Leeaindicaisamedicinalplantusedtraditionallytocurecancer.Inthisstudy,thecytotoxiccompoundsofL.indicawereisolated usingbioassay-guidedapproach.Twocycloartanetriterpenoidglycosides,mollicacidarabinoside(MAA)andmollicacidxyloside (MAX),were?rstlyisolatedfromL.indica.TheyinhibitedthegrowthofCaSkicervicalcancercellswithIC50of19.21μM(MAA) and33.33μM(MAX).MRC5normalcelllinewasusedtocalculateselectivityindex.MAAandMAXwereabout8and4times morecytotoxictoCaSkicellscomparedtoMRC5.ThecytotoxicityofMAAwascharacterizedbybothcytostaticandcytocidal e?ects.MAAdecreasedtheexpressionofproliferativecellnuclearantigen,increasedsub-G1cells,andarrestedcellsinSandG2/M phases.ThisstudyprovidestheevidencefortheethnomedicinaluseofL.indicaandpavesthewayforfuturemechanismstudies ontheanticancere?ectsofMAA. 1.Introduction anduteruscancer[19].Theleafdecoctionisconsumedby womenduringpregnancyanddeliveryforbirthcontrolorto treatobstetricdiseasesandbodypain[20,21].Inaddition, the dried leaves are consumed as a tea beverage and are believ
