In order to get insight into the density of blood vessels in the stroma of benign and malignant trichogenic neoplasms, immunohistologicalquanti?cationofCD31positivevesselswasperformedin112tumors,comprisedof50BCCsofnodular (35)ormorphoeic(15)growthpatterns,17Pinkus’tumors,aswellas17trichoepitheliomasofwhich6weredesmoplastic,8 trichofolliculomas,and20trichoblastomas.Methods.Vesseldensitywascountedwithinthetumors,inthetumor-surrounding stroma,and,asacontrol,inthenormalskinoftheoperationspecimen.Theresultswerecomparedusingstatisticalmethods. Results.Whereas,irrespectiveofthepatients’ageandlocationoftumors,thevesseldensityinnormalskinshowednosigni?cant di?erences (8.8 ± 2.7), the counts in the peritumoral stroma revealed signi?cant di?erences between the di?erent tumors investigated.ThehighestcountswereobtainedinBCC(24.7± 6.7)andthelowestinbenigntrichogenicneoplasms(around 14)Pinkus’tumorsrevealedintermediatecounts(19.7± 6.6).Thevesseldensitieswithinthetumorsweregenerallylow,andno correlationtothedignitywasfound.Conclusion.Determinationofbloodvesseldensityintheperitumoralstromamaybean additionalparameterfordi?erentialdiagnosisoftrichogenictumorsofuncertaindignity. 1.Introduction ofmicrovesseldens
