Ca?eicacidphenylesterisdistributedwildlyinnatureandhasantidiabeticandcardiovascularprotectivee?ects.However,rapid decompositionbyesteraseleadstoitslowbioavailabilityinvivo.Inthisstudy,chronicmetabolicandcardiovasculare?ectsoforal ca?eicacidphenylethylamide,whosestructureissimilartoca?eicacidphenylesterandresveratrol,wereinvestigatedinICRmice. Wefoundthatca?eicacidphenylethylamideprotectedagainstdietorstreptozocin-inducedmetabolicchangesincreasedcoronary ?owanddecreasedinfarctsizeafterglobalischemia-reperfusioninLangendor?perfusedheart.Furtherstudyindicatedthatatleast twopathwaysmightbeinvolvedinsuchbene?ciale?ects:theinductionoftheantioxidantproteinMnSODandthedecreaseof theproin?ammatorycytokineTNFαandNFκBintheliver.However,thedetailedmechanismsofca?eicacidphenylethylamide needfurtherstudies.Insummary,thisstudydemonstratedtheprotectivepotentialofchronictreatmentofca?eicacidphenylethyl amideagainstthemetabolicconsequencesindiabetesmellitus. 1.Introduction diabeticm
