Methods:Weperformedaretrospectivestudyofpatientswithafirstepisodeofcommunity-acquiredorhealthcare-related bacteremiaduringhospitaladmissionbetween2004and2009.Atotalof2,311patientswereincluded.Coxregressionwas usedtoanalyzethebehaviourofeosinophilcountandtheNLCRinsurvivorsandnon-survivors. Results: In the adjusted analysis, the main independent risk factor for mortality was persistence of an eosinophil count below0.0454?103/uL(HR=4.20;95%CI2.66–6.62).AnNLCRvalue.7wasalsoanindependentriskfactorbutwasoflesser importance.Themeaneosinophilcountinsurvivorsshowedatendencytoincreaserapidlyandtoachievenormalvalues betweenthesecondandthirdday.Inthesepatients,theNLCRwas,7betweenthesecondandthirdday. Conclusion:BothsustainedeosinopeniaandpersistenceofanNLCR.7wereindependentmarkersofmortalityinpatients withbacteremia.
