Methods:AnalysisofhospitalepisodestatisticsandsecondaryanalysisofIndexofMultipleDeprivation(IMD)2007 andLocalIndexofChildWell-being(CWI)2009intenadjacentPCTsinNorthWestEngland.Theoutcome measureforeachPCTwastheemergencyadmissionratetohospitalforbreathingdifficulty,feverishillnessand diarrhoea. Results:23,496childrenaged0-14weredischargedfollowingemergencyadmissionforbreathingdifficulty, feverishillnessand/ordiarrhoeaduring2006/07.Theemergencyadmissionraterangedfrom27.9to62.7per thousand.Therewerenostatisticallysignificantrelationshipsbetweenshorter(0to3day)hospitalisationsandthe IMDordomainsoftheCWI.Therateforhospitalisationsof4ormoredayswasassociatedwiththeIMD(Kendall’s taub=0.64)anddomainsoftheCWI:Environment(taub=0.60);Crime(taub=0.56);Material(taub=0.51); Education(taub=0.51);andChildreninNeed(taub=0.51).Thispatternwasalsoevidentinchildrenagedunder 1year,whohadthehighestemergencyadmissionrates.Therewerewidevariationsbetweentheproporti
