Thereforetheaimofthisstudywastoexaminetheretestreliabilityofmeasuringhipextensorstrengthinyoung peoplewithcerebralpalsy. Methods:Usingatest-retestreliabilityresearchdesign,19participantswithspasticdiplegiccerebralpalsy(Gross MotorFunctionClassificationSystemLevelsIIandIII)(mean19y2mo[SD2y5mo])attendedtwotesting sessionsheld12weeksapart.Threetrialswithahand-helddynamometerweretakenateachtestingsessionin supine,proneandstanding.RetestreliabilitywascalculatedwithIntraclassCorrelationCoefficients(ICC(2,1) )and withunitsofmeasurement(kilograms)convertedtoapercentagestrengthchange. Results:ICCvaluesrangedfrom.74to.78insupine,.75to.80inprone,and.73to.75instanding.Tobe95% confidentthatrealchangehadoccurred,anindividual’sstrengthwouldneedtoincrease55to60%insupine,86 to102%inprone,and102to105%instanding.Tobe95%confidentthatrealchangehadoccurredacross groups,strengthwouldneedtoincrease4to8%insupine,22to31%inprone,and32%to34%instanding. HigherICCvalueswereobservedwhenthreetrialswereusedfortesting. Conclusions:Thesupinetestingpositionwasmorereliablethantheproneorstandingtestingpositions.Itis possibletomeasurehipextensorstrengthwithsufficientreliabilitytobeablemonitorchangewithingroupsusing thesupinepositionprovidedthreetrialsareusedduringtesting.However,thereisinsufficientreliabilitytomonitor changesinhipextensorstrengthinindividualswithcerebralpalsyunlesstheye
