Barcode analysis of 6279 specimens revealed nearly 900 presumptivespeciesofmiteswithhighspeciesturnoverbetweensubstratesandbetweenforestedandnon-forestedsites. Accumulationcurveshavenotreachedanasymptoteforanyofthethreemiteordersinvestigated,andestimatessuggest thatmorethan1200speciesofAcarioccuratthislocality.ThecouplingofDNAbarcoderesultswithtaxonomicassignments revealed that Trombidiformes compose 49% of the fauna, a larger fraction than expected based on prior studies. This investigationdemonstratestheefficacyofDNAbarcodinginfacilitatingbiodiversityassessmentsofhyperdiversetaxa.
