Immunolocal- izationindicatedthattheproteinwasmainlylocatedonthetegumentoftheparasite.InfectionofrSjGALE-immunizedmice demonstrateda34%and49%reductionofthemeanwormburdenandlivereggburden,respectively,intwoindependent experiments,indicatingimmuneprotection.Thelivereggcountfromeachfemaleadultwormwassignificantlyreducedby 63%inthetwotrials.ThecytokineprofileandIgGisotypeanalysisdemonstratedtheinductionofaTh1immuneprofilein responsetoimmunizationwiththisprotein,furthersuggestingprotectionagainstinfection.Inconclusion,thesefindings indicatedthatSjGALEisapotentialvaccineagainstS.japonicum.
